Talking Point 1 - Are Liverpool’s road race events ‘at risk’?
THE INCREASING DEMANDS OF SAFETY RELATED ISSUES WITHIN ROAD RACES EVERYWHERE ARE BEGINNING TO TAKE THEIR TOLL – AND LIVERPOOL IS NO EXCEPTION.
Staging road race events anywhere (London Marathon and Great North Run excepted) is becoming increasingly more difficult every year. Most are seen to be an inconvenience wherever they are staged and all are having to stand much greater scrutiny of Traffic Management delivery, Event Documentation content, Risk Assessment planning and a whole range of other ‘Safety’ issues. Add into the equation the fact that Liverpool has become a building site over the last two years it is a wonder that anything has been staged in the city at all in 2005 and 2006. Talking Point 2 - Is Liverpool ready or indeed capable of staging a marathon in 2008?
Between 2005 and 2007 the city of Liverpool has undergone a significant transformation. The road infrastructure has improved (some would say) and the skyline has changed before our very eyes.
