WORLD STATUS GROWS AS RECORD IS SMASHED BY MORE THAN 1,000

Just 12 months after securing World Record status, the Liverpool Santa Dash has beaten it’s own record which now unofficially stands at 4,975. This is 1,054 more than last year and the popularity of this unique event looks set to grow again next year. The event has struck up an excellent relationship with The Great Santa Run in Las Vegas where their race is proving almost – but not quite – as popular with the locals over there.

Linda Smith from Opportunity Village who host the Las Vegas Run attended the Liverpool Santa Dash and was overwhelmed by the scale of the event and also the friendly nature of those who took part. Linda started the Liverpool Santa Dash and went back to Las Vegas fully aware of the magnitude of the task that lay before them! Although very attended the initial count for the Great Santa Run is in the region of 4,000 which is falling well short of numbers in Liverpool. nevertheless, she and the city remain undaunted and how vowed to challenge Liverpool again. It is also possible that Milan and another major U.K. city will launch attempts at the Guinness Book of World Records title of the ‘Most Santas in One Place’.

So Liverpool may have to redouble it’s efforts in 2007 if it is to retain it’s number one spot! The 2006 event saw bigger numbers in the mini dash with around 400 or so mini Santas taking part in the half mile jog. Creativity was evident on the day with a fantastic range of ‘Best Dressed Santas’ on display. There is a great range of images on the www.santa-dash.com web site – and anyone who would like to contribute to the site content is more than welcome.

A young man by the name of Kev Keegan is doing a first class job promoting the Liverpool Santa Dash so make sure you have a look at his site. So, congratulations to everyone who took part. The new World Record will not be confirmed until some in the new year but the claim has gone off and we await confirmation from Guinness! Here’s to 2007!
