RACE organisers today announced the Liverpool Unites: Run for Rhys was back on the starting blocks.
After the success of Friday’s Concert for Rhys at the ECHO arena, it is hoped the run will be just as big a hit.
Rescheduled from its original date in July to Sunday September 14, the event is a 5km family fun day around Croxteth Hall park.
It is hoped that thousands will take part and raise money, while remembering the 11-year-old who was shot dead.
The day is open to all regardless of age or fitness level. Entrants are encouraged to walk, jog or run the 5km (3.1 mile) course, raising as much sponsorship money as possible in the process.
When the run was launched, Rhys’s mother Melanie and his brother Owen, 18, agreed to start the runners.
His father Stephen will be one of those taking part.
Mrs Jones said: “Rhys rarely sat still for very long and was always running about.
“This will be a great event and will raise money for the community centre as well as helping people stay healthy.
“Ste has already got his old trainers out while Owen and I will be waving him and hopefully thousands of others on their way.”
