Back in December 2006 (http://www.yoliverpool.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2857&highlight=marathon), Liverpool was bidding to host an international marathon. Planners would have liked to have seen a big race in the city every year, starting in 2008.

Does anyone know what happened with this proposal?

Can Liverpool sustain a yearly Mersey Marathon?

Did we used to have a Marathon in Liverpool? I'm sure one ran through Garston when I was a kid.

I believe the original Liverpool marathon started at St. Geoges plateau and finished at Anfield and I do have a book with a photograph in it somewhere.

I did the Liverpool marathon in 85, 86 and 87. Starting in Camp Hill, Woolton, it went along Brodie Avenue, winded through Sefton Park before heading through town and along vauxhall and stanley road, Bottle to the halfway turning point in Seaforth. That makes me tired just thinking of it now, but you then had 13 miles to do along the dock road, past the liver, up past the Britannia and onto Otterspool prom, up Beechwood rd and onto Aigburth Road - thru Garston and back up to Camp Hill.
